Close relative care benefit (närståendepenning)
Compensation when you take time off work to be with a close relative who is seriously ill.

What to do
- Read the rules and current amounts at Försäkringskassan.
- Ask for a medical certificate and talk to the ill person about the application.
- Apply in Försäkringskassan’s e-service. You log in with e-identification at the authority, never at Rättkoll.
- You get a decision. If your situation changes, you usually need to report it.
Give correct information. From 1 July 2026, Försäkringskassan charges a sanction fee if you were overpaid because you gave incorrect information or did not report a change: 25 percent of the incorrect amount, at least 2,368 SEK.
