HousingResponsible: Försäkringskassan

Housing allowance for families with children

Help with housing costs if you have children living at home and a low income.

Quick check: does this apply to you?

Answer yes or no on each line. Nothing is saved.

  • You have children living with you, all or part of the time
  • You live and are registered at the address
  • You live in Sweden and have a low income

What affects the decision

  • The household’s income over the year
  • How much the children live with you
  • The size and cost of your home

What to do

  1. Read the rules and current amounts at Försäkringskassan.
  2. Estimate the household’s yearly income before tax and get documents about your home, such as your rental contract.
  3. Apply in Försäkringskassan’s e-service. You log in with e-identification at the authority, never at Rättkoll.
  4. You get a decision. If your situation changes, you usually need to report it.

Give correct information. From 1 July 2026, Försäkringskassan charges a sanction fee if you were overpaid because you gave incorrect information or did not report a change: 25 percent of the incorrect amount, at least 2,368 SEK.
